Serif was built to be a digital sanctuary. We believe that software should respect your attention and protect your privacy. This policy explains how Serif handles your data with absolute transparency. We do not harvest, sell, or exploit your personal information.

1. The Data We Access (And Why)

To function as a contextual and insightful home screen replacement, Serif requires certain permissions. All data processed by these permissions remains securely on your device.

• Location (Coarse/Fine): Used exclusively to fetch your local weather for the Zenith clock display. Your coordinates are temporarily used to ping weather APIs (Open-Meteo) but are never logged, tracked, or stored on our servers.
• App Usage Stats: Required to power "The Chronolog." Serif monitors your active apps to calculate "quiet stretches" and log your daily timeline. This data is heavily encrypted and saved entirely locally on your device. We cannot see your timeline.
• Network Access: Used to fetch the atomic time to synchronize your 24-hour immersion trial, and to retrieve weather updates.

2. Data Storage & Security

Your margin notes, Chronolog history, and custom preferences are stored locally on your device using Android's native storage mechanisms. Serif operates as an offline-first experience. If you uninstall the app, your local data is destroyed alongside it.

3. Third-Party Services

While Serif has no hidden analytics or tracking SDKs, we utilize a few essential external services to keep the app functional:

• Google Play Billing: Handles the lifetime license transaction securely. Serif does not collect, process, or have access to your credit card information.
• Open-Meteo / IPAPI: Used to provide real-time weather context.

4. Your Rights & Control

You have absolute control over your device. You can revoke Serif's access to your Location or App Usage Statistics at any time via your Android System Settings. Revoking these permissions will gracefully disable the Weather and Chronolog features without breaking the core launcher experience.
